Any paddle
sport is an assumed risk
sport. Some aspects of
canoeing and kayaking
involve the risk of serious
injury or death. The Rhode
Island Canoe and Kayak
Association, although safety
conscious, cannot guarantee
your personal safety in club
activities.
Save The Lakes (stlri.org) is working to build statewide
awareness of the threat of aquatic invasive species to our lakes
&
freshwater resources. See

IMPORTANT: Scheduled trip times are DEPARTURE times,
not arrival times.
Just as you wouldn't
arrive at the airport at 9AM for a 9AM flight you
should arrive before the departure time for paddle
trips, to allow adequate time to unload boats and
gear and park the car. .
When boat size or paddling skill sets are specifiedas requirements for
participation in a trip they apply to everybody.Even
if you have the experience to overcome the
circumstances that necessitate these requirements
they still apply to you. Once an exception is
made for one individual it creates a serious problem
enforcing the requirements when other less
experienced paddlers demand to be allowed to
participate also.
Your cooperation and
understanding is greatly appreciated

Link problems on the homepage
- The Sea Kayaking web pages,
the Flatwater web pages, and the Whitewater webpages all reside on
hosts separate from the home site. Among other reasons, this serves
a security function in that, when the main RICKA site gets hacked (it
has happened 5 times so far) the satellite sites are protected from
being defaced and needing to be restored.
Bear in mind that web
servers, like personal computers, are subject to occassional crashes
and/or occassionally have to be taken offline to be upgraded. These
events are beyond our control. In the event that you are unable to
access one of the satellite sites or even the home site, please wait
an hour and try accessing it again before reporting a problem to the
Webmaster.
Flatwater Trips:
Do not launch your boat until the trip coordinator gives
a brief safety talk and takes a head count of the
paddlers. The trip coordinator will assign needed
positions to other leaders: e.g. sweep boat, alternate
leaders, etc. Please
wait for the leader to launch their boat or give the OK
for you to launch.
On the water, stay with the group
at all times and stay behind the leaders, unless
otherwise directed. Never paddle behind the sweep boat.
If you leave the trip for any reason, you need to notify
a leader.
We thank you for your understanding
and cooperation; we want to insure that our paddles are
enjoyable and safe for all. Please review these
safety signals.
